On Sunday 24th September 2017, Anish Chauhan the director of a Midlands based Cyber Security company, cycled a whopping 100 miles for the blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia.
Though Anish is by no means a seasoned cyclist, he joined 15,000 fellow participants at Vélo Birmingham to raise money for a cause close to his heart.
The mammoth cycle which started on Broad Street in Birmingham City Centre, took the cyclists on a route from city to countryside on completely closed roads.
Cure Leukaemia is a blood cancer charity which was established in 2003. The charity’s aim was to allow patients with blood cancer in the Midlands to access effective new treatments. They are now leading the way internationally in the fight against the disease.
This year Cure Leukaemia have launched a £1m appeal to raise funds towards a new £3.2m clinical haematology centre in Birmingham. This new centre has the chance to double the world class facility’s ability to treat patients, carry out clinical trials and fund specialist research, in addition to allowing stem cell transplants to be performed as an outpatient for the first time.
Anish is the director of Equilibrium Security Services, a Cyber Security company born and bred in Birmingham. He set up the company in 2012, with the aim of protecting a business’ most valuable asset: its data. Equilibrium understand each network is unique, which is why they tailor intelligent security solutions to fit your business needs.
Equilibrium were a proud sponsor of the Vélo charity lead Cure Leukaemia. Their company logo was featured on the charity’s kit which was worn by 700 cyclists.
Anish Chauhan Director or Equilibrium Security Services in Birmingham:
“Having registered for the 100 mile Vélo some time ago, only after getting to 30-40 miles did I realise how difficult this was going to be for me. I had only cycled about 12 miles prior to starting the training!
However having quickly got into a rhythm in my training; eating lots of complex carbs, low fat diet and plenty of hydration, my training took me to about 75 miles 2 weeks before the event. Having now completed the Velo, I’m chuffed that I got round without any cramps and the feeling of achievement has stayed with me for all of the last week!
Supporting CL was a no-brainer; they do so much without spending ridiculous amounts on marketing like some charities. Also their £3m building project means that you know exactly where every penny raised or donated goes”
Please donate to a great cause!
Anish completed the 100 mile cycling marathon in 8 hours and 34 minutes. This is an excellent achievement considering he had only cycled a fraction of the course length prior to training.
It is not too late to sponsor Anish’s cycle for Vélo. If you would like to help Cure Leukaemia raise funds for the new £3.2m clinical haematology centre, head to Anish’s JustGiving page below where you can donate.
